Week 5 Camera Experiment

Untitled from Taylor Wamble on Vimeo.

I had a hard time getting used to the whole camera thing. I guess its more beneficial when you use it to capture many angles and comprise the footage that way, unlike how i used it which was basically to zoom past stuff. It seems like I could have done that with scaling things up and down. This assignment too me forever and I only have 6 seconds. I began to realize that I could only go so far into z space before the camera inverts thus not much time to create my scene. I think I should have extended my poi more than I did. I don't know if this video really captures what I would like for it to. I don't know if the passing through the clouds aspect is successful.

  1. the passing through the clouds is not a complete flop but it definitely needs to be extended. i know you said this is only 6 seconds but definitely push to finish it because this idea has a lot of potential. i want to see where the piece is going to end up and it's sad that it gets cut off. it's like your person is falling but i don't know where to.

  2. I think that you did a good job for the animation with how simple this is but effective with your camera work. I have dreams like this ever so often and I think you really got the feeling down. If you were to explore this animation a little more I think you could shoot some hands from the side or from a 3/4 view. This would add to the effect of free falling because then you can shift the camera to look around the environment. Hopefully this is clear?

  3. I like the aesthetics of this project. They seem cold and remind me of the old film with the man in the moon face. The only problem I see is when the camera passes the clouds layer, it seems to appear like a sudden background change. So I was thinking maybe a way you could fix that would be to makes the layers opacity change right when the camera with passing through it so that is creeps up more rather than just appearing there.

  4. I agree with Kassey about the cold temperature. It does seem to end abruptly. Even a simple fade to black would have added some closer. It's a very attractive look and motion. Makes me want to see more.

  5. I think the clouds are beginning to work nicely, and think they reflect your topic well. Maybe adding a few extra layers of clouds, positioned at different spots between the camera and the moon would make your idea more effective. Also, working with the opacity levels, will help keep the clouds from suddenly popping in.

  6. The hands are very static to me. Everything else in the piece seems so dynamic and moving. I think the last few seconds where the cloud texture is zooming out is really working well.
I'm sure there is a way to simulate a longer camera zoom, maybe reducing the scale of the images while zooming out slower could help.
I feel like there could be a lot more objects (planets and stars and things) that actually move back in space. It feels like right now there are only two or three.
